New Mexico Get-Out-The-Vote Maps

FairVote2020 has developed an interactive map showing turnout of registered voters in New Mexico for the 2004 presidential election. Additional maps include census data on race, ethnicity and income.

Zoom in on the map by clicking the button at the top and then on the map. Change maps by clicking the drop-down menu under "Compare Maps" to the left of the map image window.

Maps 18 through 21 show election results for Bush-Gore and Bush-Kerry at the precinct and county levels.

Map 1 (default map) -- Percent Turnout in New Mexico 2004 (of registered voters)

At a scale of about 5 miles, the number of registered persons (by precinct) who did not vote in the 2004 election is displayed in purple boxes. Early and absentee votes are included for turnout calculations.

Precinct boundaries are those in effect in 2000. At a scale of about 3 miles, pie charts display in areas with significant minority populations, showing race/ethnicity components for the over 18 population.

2000 Election Maps

  • Community-wide Bush Gore Maps

Bush-Gore by precinct (head to head contest excluding third party candidates). Due to unassigned early voters, actual voting behavior of the underlying population may not be accurately reflected in some precincts.

  • Community-wide Turnout Maps (by 18+ pop. in 2000)

Birds-eye view of turnout for the 18+ population in the 2000 general election. The numbers displayed in purple boxes show unregistered 18+ and non-voting registered voters by precinct, i.e. everyone over 18 who did not vote.

Precinct-level turnout rates have not been adjusted to account for unassigned absentee or early voting.

Ten of New Mexico's 33 counties had unassigned early/absentee voting rates above 15% -- Guadalupe (67%), San Miguel (53%), Harding (41%), Valencia (37%), Curry (21%), Chavis (21%), Bernalillo (18%), Cibola (18%), Sierra (16%), and Santa Fe (15%). Catron (14%), Roosevelt (14%) , and Dona Ana (12%) are the next highest, with the twenty remaining counties under 10% -- ten were below 5%.

Note: About 120 of the 1,346 precincts in 2000 had turnout rates above 100%. These areas, along with a dozen precincts with missing info, are left blank.
