FairVote2020 has developed an interactive map                                  showing turnout of registered voters in New Mexico for the 2004                                  presidential election. Additional maps include                                  census data on race, ethnicity and income.                                                                     
                                                                  Zoom in on the                                  map by clicking the button at the top and then                                  on the map.  Change maps  by clicking the                                  drop-down menu under "Compare Maps" to the left                                  of the map image window. 
                                                                  Maps 18 through 21 show                                  election results for Bush-Gore and Bush-Kerry at                                  the precinct and county levels.

Early and                                  absentee votes are included for  turnout                                  calculations.
                                 Precinct boundaries are those                                  in effect in 2000. At a scale of about 3 miles,                                  pie charts display in areas                                  with significant minority populations, showing                                  race/ethnicity components for the over 18                                  population.

Birds-eye view of  turnout for the 18+              population in the 2000 general election. The numbers displayed in              purple boxes show unregistered 18+ and non-voting registered voters              by precinct,  i.e. everyone over 18 who did not vote.
                                  Precinct-level turnout                                  rates have not been adjusted to account for                                  unassigned absentee or early voting. 
                                 Ten of New Mexico's 33                                  counties had unassigned early/absentee voting                                   rates above 15% -- Guadalupe (67%),  San                                  Miguel (53%),  Harding (41%),                                   Valencia (37%),  Curry (21%), Chavis (21%),                                  Bernalillo (18%), Cibola (18%), Sierra (16%),                                   and Santa Fe (15%). Catron (14%),                                   Roosevelt  (14%) , and Dona Ana (12%) are                                  the next highest,  with the twenty                                  remaining counties under 10%  -- ten were                                  below 5%.
                                 Note: About 120 of the 1,346                                  precincts in 2000 had turnout rates above 100%.                                   These areas, along with a dozen precincts with                                  missing info, are left blank.
